Reinforced concrete is one of the most used construction materials on the planet. Steel rebar is the standard reinforcement used in concrete.

  • The total production cycle from iron mine to steel rebar on site is extremely long and the environmental impact is high.

  • The processing temperatures of iron are very high and excessive amounts of energy is used.

  • This results in 1,84 ton CO2 per ton of produced steel rebar.

  • Steel rebar corrodes and shortens the lifespan of concrete
